Tomorrow I travel 140 miles to play cricket on Saturday with people I was at school with more than 35 years ago. Sue and I are staying overnight in a converted prison which is now a hotel and will no doubt meet up with some of them.

We are all too old and no good at cricket. We only do it because we were asked to about 6 years ago and enjoyed it so it sort of became an annual event. We lose heavilly every year but still have people coming from Barbados and the South of France. We may even have one from Glasgow. No doubt we shall have a jar or two before during and after the game. Good job it is a 12.00 start

It will be good to get away after a hard week. Too hot, no air conditioning or ventilation in my room, Too many meetings about redundancies, too much work, dashing to Leeds to collect younger daughter Ellie from Glastonbury (where she spoke to Rolf Harris) helping older daughter Sarah convalesce after her long operation on Tuesday and trying to keep the peace between Mother-in-Law and Sarah over M-I-L not coming to Sarah's wedding next month. I am looking forward to getting away tomorrow
